NCAA Tournament Selection Day - March 12, 2006

Selection Sunday is March 12, 2006 and 'Kolkata' - the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament auction that took the East Coast by storm over the last few years - is making its Left Coast debut in San Francisco, California.

Briefly, Kolkata is a gathering with free booze during which an auction is held that allows individuals or teams of friends to bid on each and every team that is seeded in the tournament, starting with the 16 seeds and working down to the number 1s.

At the end of the night winning bids are collected in cash. At the end of the tournament, the pot, totalling in the thousands, is then awarded in percentages to the owners of teams that meet certain criteria.

Official award rules are still being drawn up, so keep visiting kolkata2006.blogspot.com for updates, commentary and all the hype you can handle.
